In an interview with MSNBC’s Joy Reid, Republican Rep. Tom Reed (NY) said that it would be okay if 20,000 Americans died as long as Medicaid was underfunded.

Tom Reid displayed results from an analysis from the Center for American Progress, showing that anywhere from 18,000-27,000 more people will die because of lack of healthcare. Rep. Reed didn’t seem to care that much.

“What I’m saying is we need to make the program sustainable, and what you have to do is change the way we do Medicaid … not expand the service,” the GOP congressman said.

Reid fired back, and the Representative from New York struggled to figure out ways to answer the question without saying that money was more important than life.

As Tom Reid notes, Medicaid helps the most vulnerable of Americans, but the Republicans still want to dismantle it— even if it means that more people will die.

Bernie Sanders was right, this bill is nothing more than a tax cut for millionaires, and the Republicans would rather help stuff the pockets of a few millionaires than save thousands of American lives.
