Times Square is well known for its giant billboards lighting up one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet.

New movies, Broadway shows, designer products, and, now, Impeach Trump. As part of his $20 million campaign to remove Donald Trump from the White House, Environmentalist and Democratic mega-donor Tom Steyer announced Monday that he’s taking up advertising space in the epicenter of New York City, during the busiest time of the year. Every day, approximately 350,000 people will see the billboard.

“We’re putting a couple of large billboards in Times Square calling for the impeachment of the president,” Steyer told Bloomberg. “We legitimately feel that this is the huge issue in front of the American people that no one is standing up for what the overwhelming number of Americans think.”

The ad direct people to Steyer’s website, needtoimpeach.com, where they can sign a petition imploring Congress to impeach Trump and remove him from office. But the advertisement takes it one step further and shows a running total of the number of people who have already signed the petition. When Steyer made the announcement, 2.6 million Americans had already signed. At the time of this article, that number is at 2.8 million and closing fast on 3 million.

He doesn’t care about politics as much as he does about getting rid of the demagogue-in-chief.

“It seems as if elected officials don’t think this is the time or don’t think that it’s tactically smart,” he said. “We’re not trying to be tactically smart. We’re not trying to in some way, shape or form use this for the ’18 midterms.”
