Donald Trump’s win sent the nation, and especially the Democratic Party, into a tailspin of confusion and fear. The Democrats are lost, leaderless, and without a message—and President Trump loves it. It gives him endless opportunities to kick the minority party while they’re down.

But, like Gandalf returning to bring Middle-Earth back from the brink, President Obama is returning to save the Democratic Party. As Washington Post reports:

Former President Barack Obama will formally re-enter the political fray this week less than six months after leaving office, headlining a fundraiser for a group that could prove critical to the Democratic Party’s rebuilding efforts.

At the July 13th closed fundraiser, Former President Barack Obama will speak to a small group as a representative of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC). The NDRC hopes to go to different states Republicans had an unfair advantage due to gerrymandering. This process has historically undermined minority voting to remove their voice in elections. The Supreme Court ruled in 2010 that the Republicans have been using gerrymandering to win elections all throughout the country

And now, Obama is coming back to the country’s aid, right when the Democratic Party needs him most. As the Democratic National Committee Chairman said:

Because tomorrow’s president is today’s state senator. And he knows that very personally. When you lose 900 state legislative seats, those are people who could have been the next governors and senators and Cabinet positions, and that is something that he’s very committed to.

For the last few months, Donald Trump continued to attack Obama even as Obama stayed out of the spotlight. Now Obama seems ready to fight back—and Trump is going to regret his ongoing temper tantrums.
