The residents of America’s poorest town, Beattyville, Kentucky, are losing hope in the Trump administration.

“I’ve lived in poverty my entire life,” Melissa Allen, 34, said. “There’s really no hope. I don’t understand why the minimum wage here can’t be raised. I don’t get that. I hope it gets better. I really do, but I just don’t want to live on false hope.”

52-year-old Donna Coomer; “Have you ever tried to live on $7.25 an hour? It was horrible.” She also thanks God for Trump’s election, believing he will change things.

Pegg Stewart, 62, just begs the President to help. “Mr. Trump, please take care of us. We’re looking to you.”

Sadly, many Americans in the same situation, who voted for Trump, can’t connect the President’s policies with their own sufferings. For instance, they don’t connect that while they want and need a higher minimum wage, the Republicans don’t—and Trump even suggested getting rid of it altogether.

Under Trump, the residents of Beattyville will only suffer more, and hopefully, they will start to see why.
