Cherry and Vanilla Drink
Tart cherries are rich in melatonin, the hormone which regulates our sleep cycle and that’s why adding this delicious drink to your routine will help you sleep better. Adding a drop or two of vanilla extract will give you the aromatherapy boost and you’ll definitely fall asleep like a baby.
5-8 Ounce tart cherry juice
1-2 drops vanilla extract
You can drink the cherry juice in the morning without the vanilla extract because it may make you sleepy in the morning, but add it in the evening before you go to bed for the extra push you need. Just one glass of tart cherry juice in the morning and one in the evening is the perfect solution for your sleeping troubles.
Chamomile and Lavender Fresh Tea
The chamomile has been long known for its sleep inducing properties and lavender is a scent that’s been used for relaxation and peacefulness for centuries. Mix the two and you get the perfect combo against insomnia.
- of fresh lavender
- of fresh chamomile
- Milk or honey if you like
Boil 8 ounces of water and pour it over the lavender-chamomile herbal mix. Leave it for 10-15 minutes for the herbs to release all the beneficial properties and flavors and strain it. You can add some milk and/or honey if you like. Drink it in the evening before you go to bed and enjoy!
A glass of Milk + Nutmeg + Honey
We’ve been drinking milk before we sleep since we were babies, so why didn’t we continue the practice? Maybe we’ve forgotten about it or maybe we just think it won’t work now as it did before. On the contrary, a glass of warm milk can raise our body temperature making us more relaxed and sleepy. Adding in the honey and nutmeg can just make the effect stronger. Honey contains essential amino-acids which transform into serotonin which transforms into melatonin. And as we mentioned earlier the melatonin regulates our sleep cycle. Nutmeg in small doses can act as a tranquilizer and can be a great sleeping aid. Just be careful not to overdo it, ¼ of a teaspoon is enough, because otherwise it can have serious side effects.
